It’s a musical morning – alt-J

An Awesome Wave

An Awesome Wave

My good friend told me about this band about a month ago. I listened to a few songs, thought they were good, but then kind of forgot about them. She reminded me this past week (Thanks, Dee), and yesterday I spent the day obsessed with them. I don’t have the musical or analytical skill to actually review the album beyond saying that I am in love with it. And so far, it’s like when you meet that special someone and she/he charges every one of your senses beyond recognition and the two of you can’t get out of bed for two days straight. It might be a love that burns bright for a couple weeks and then gets crushed under the weight of familiarity, but maybe, just maybe, it will be the kind of love that lasts, that supports you through the good times and bad, that reminds you who you really are.  But in those first days, it doesn’t matter one bit. The future doesn’t even exist.  Only the two of you and your desire to tell the world about what you’ve found.

Wait, I was talking about music.  So take all that, dial it back into the land of sanity, and know that I’ve been listening to alt-J pretty much constantly since yesterday.

Below is Breezeblocks, my current favorite.  Also, loving Tessellate and Mathilda, but honestly I’ve just been listening to the full album on repeat.  Oh, and the album is called An Awesome Wave.

“Breezeblocks”
She may contain the urge to run away
But hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks
Cetirizine your fever’s grip me again
Never kisses, all do you ever send are full stops, la, la, la

Do you know where the wilds things go?
They go along to take your honey, la, la, la
Break down now, weep, build up breakfast now
Let’s eat my love, my love, love, love, la, la, la

Muscle to muscle and toe to toe
The fear has gripped me but here I go
My heart sinks as I jump up
Your hand grips hand as my eyes shut

Do you know where the wild things go?
They go along to take your honey, la, la, la
Break down let’s sleep build up breakfast now
Let’s eat my love my love, love, love, la, la, la

She bruises, coughs, she splutters pistol shots
But hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks
She’s morphine, queen of my vaccine
My love, my love, love, love, la, la, la

Muscle to muscle and toe to toe
The fear has gripped me but here I go
My heart sinks as I jump up
Your hand grips hand as my eyes shut

She may contain the urge to run away
But hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks
Germolene, disinfect the scene my love, my love, love, love
But please don’t go, I love you so, my lovely

Please don’t go, please don’t go
I love you so, I love you so
Please don’t go, please don’t go
I love you so, I love you so

Please break my heart, hey
Please don’t go, please don’t go
I love you so, I love you so
Please don’t go, please don’t go

I love you so, I love you so
Please break my heart
Please don’t go, I’ll eat you whole
I love you so, I love you so, I love you so

Please don’t go I’ll eat you whole
I love you so, I love you so, I love you so, I love you so
I’ll eat you whole
I love you so, I love you so

I’ll eat you whole
I love you so, I love you so
I’ll eat you whole
I love you so, I love you so

Please don’t go, I’ll eat you whole
I love you so, I love you so, I love you so
Please don’t go, I’ll eat you whole
I love you so, I love you so, I love you so
