Music for a Sunday Morning

June 16, 2013

I have a feeling I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know, but if you haven’t discovered Nick Drake yet, he comes highly recommended by the number 17 brain trust.  I fell asleep last night with my headphones in and this morning woke up to “From the Morning” by Mr. Drake.  Quite fortuitous, if you ask me, as I can’t think of a better song to wake up to on a quiet Sunday morning.

As a bonus, here’s “Road” and “Cello Song,” probably my two personal favorite Nick Drake songs.

Lastly, here’s “Pink Moon,” which I’m guessing is his most well-known song and one you may remember from a Volkswagen commercial in the early 2000s (to be fair, it really is one of the best summer-night driving songs of all time).

Also, thanks to my younger brother for introducing me to Nick Drake all those years ago.  Was it on our cross-country trip or earlier than that even?  Either way, we’re talking about the grand old age of the 1990s, when the dulcet tones of Sugar Ray danced on the radio airwaves, women everywhere were wearing jellies, and I actually 0wned a pair of rollerblades. (If the 90s taught me anything it was to never try to be cool because if you try to hard to keep up with the trends, you’re really going to look foolish in a couple of years.)
